I know there are commercial and financial reasons for taking this squad half way to the moon and back,(and think of the carbon footprint),but surely there is nothing more to be learned there that five miles up the road against lower league opposition.Jet lag is more likely to bear them than this level of opposition.
Most of the squad haven’t travelled,in large part due to the WC and by the time they return there is not a lot of time to integrate everybody before the PL kicks off.It’s pure greed that drives these long distant tours,generally to places where football isn’t the main sport.It is surely better to ensure the health and fitness of the players by concentrating pre-season much closer to home.
It will be interesting to see whether Soloman piques RDZ’s interest on this tour as he does possess qualities severely lacking in the wide players who featured in the last two seasons.But he needs to face better opposition to prove he has the ability still.
I advise not to look too closely at performance of individuals and the team.
This is pre season. The objective primarily is fitness levels. Second will be looking at fringe players ( Scarlett) then tactics to be employed in the coming season with new players working with their new team mates.
We have players still out with injury and players now on holiday after the WC.
Three games are generally meaningless from a fan perspective.
Still proof that we are dealing with the consequences of Levy and will do for quite some time.
Both the goals were very poor, and chances like that won’t be created in the premier league.
I thought my Scarlett’s movement and poacher instinct was good for the first goal, something that we missed last season. I still do not understand the decision to send him out on loan and spend £12m on Muani. Even from this evidence he offers more.
Richarlison only scores if he doesn’t have to move. The ball has to be at his feet. He gets more immobile every year. Asking £25m for him means we will be stuck with him. We need to be more realistic with the fee. I suspect we will eventually have to release him. I’d take 10m now and free up the wage bill.
Realistically we should be winning this by 4 or 5. The fact we didn’t tells me we have absolutely nothing upfront.
