I have a slightly different view on it. Yes there are much better strikers out there today. Sadly none of them play for our club.

I would prefer Lankshear upfront for us now, than Solanke, Pigeon and dare I say it Marmoush (although there is time for him to come good)

Ideally we would not have spent £80m on Savio, and instead bought Thiago, Vlahovic or Kroupi.

I think we made a couple of mistakes in the window, sure. It happens when trading such unprecedented volume. However, the good really does outweigh the bad.

Billy Sharpe and Adam Armstrong were/are good League 1/Championship level centre fireworks, but once the EPL came round they struggled.

The EPL is different, Delap is realising this, and he isn't the last to struggle to score goals consistently at the highest level. I do think Lankshear warranted another season on loan and then a chance getting minutes for Spurs. At 21, he has a lot of developing to do. Just like Gray, Bergvall, Tel and Odobert.

I remember Anthony Gordon struggling at Everton/Newcastle, but after the Euro U/21 win he ignited and he hasn't looked back. No one can foretell how far a player can go, our own Kane wouldn't have been predicted to win a Ballon D'Or, finish Spurs highest goalscorer and England's highest goalscorer/appearance maker when he was 21.

The long and short of it is…. The club let him go because they think he was good enough. He’s dropped down a level and found his feet.

Please remember Solanke had one good season under his belt before we paid over market value for him. The sign as to how good young Will is how many he’s scored in two maybe three seasons time specifically in the PL.

I lost count at the amount of kids who told me they’d scored 50 goals a season. When they said in a lower division I always said come back to me when you’ve done it in the top division then we’ll look again. Rarely if ever heard from them again.

There are levels in every sport. I’ve said this many times. Will may go up a level he might not.

I've seen several references to an option to be able to match a buy fee..... but that, I assume only becomes relevant IF the player is up for sale...... not sure how the player's contract would reflect that.
