Watching Brighton v.Brentford this afternoon to see how Vuskovic is continuing to develope, knowing a number of top clubs have their eyes on him.I thought a battle against a seasoned pro like Thiago would be an interesting watch, but the Brazilian’s early dismissal scuppered that and as a consequence Vuskovic and his fellow defenders have had an easy match.
Firstly, the formation. What was RDZ thinking? A successful midfield pairing had finally emerged, with Tonali as the lynchpin, in the deeper #6 role and Fernandes complementing him as the #8, with a #10, preferably Maddison, pulling the strings creatively. So RDZ inverted Tonali and Fernandes, for what reason I have absolutely no idea, and then neglected to employ any creative midfielder to pull the strings as a #10. The side worked hard at least, in the first half, but with no creative spark whatsoever. Tel was having one of those games, looking like a headless chicken running up blind alleyways, before his unfortunate injury and Marmoush and Solanke (who replaced Tel) were utterly ineffectual. Only Kudus, frequently double-marked, looked like he might make an impact, but the balance of the team was all wrong.
The second half things only got worse, with Leeds starting to boss the midfield and RDZ apparently reluctant to use substitutes to change the course of the game, when they were clearly needed. Was Maddison injured? That's the only possible explanation for neither starting him, nor bringing him on as a sub. When the subs finally arrived, it shifted momentum slightly and Bentancur looked sharp, but not half as much as Leeds's substitutions, which ultimately turned the course of the game. A poor goal to give away, especially so soon after Kinsky's blinding save. It was only after going behind that we finally seemed to muster any attacking intent and LWB could have made himself a hero, but somehow couldn't quite fashion an opening for himself. In summary a poor second half performance, exacerbated by poor tactics and team selection, resulting in a deserved defeat.
Bringing Solanke on was the encouragement Leeds needed to up the pressure ..dreadful decision..with no winger on the left Kudus was toast ..De Zerbi got it wrong there .
Porro 60/70 million rather than a player swap with an ‘Emerson Royale’ ..sell him play steady Gray at RB ..
Tbh it is not right to judge Marmoush barely played for a season , or Kudus when there is no left winger on the park ( I thought he was good v Palace ) Kudus gets clobbered. The sad truth is, as ever at Spurs , is that as Solanke is on £140,000 a week for the next four years he has to play. His good season at Bournemouth was THE BLIP and Levy was a self serving clown . Get over it ..he isn’t good enough. See Delap has started to bully defences 3 goals this season more than any Spurs player.his tail will be up now ...40 mil ..was mentioned in dispatches in the summer ..Lange Bar ..twat.
With the international break the Jan T/W is 6 weeks away …no imposters please .
Mickey VDV was shocking for their goal, just stood with his hands behind his back and made no attempt to close CL down. CL just side stepped under zero pressure and got a shot away with VDV blocking Kinski’s view. Awful, yet again.
Invariably he’s at fault in some way for half the goals we concede.
I’m not sure how many points VDV has to cost us before people realise just what a shockingly poor defender he is.
It was Bentancur who inadvertently played the ball into Calvert-Lewin's path ES, VDV was covering the other striker, so I can't see that VDV was at fault to be honest. It was Bentancur, clearly worried about fouling Okafor, who let him get a shot off. VDV was not in Kinsky's line of sight at all. I wholly agree it was a poor goal to concede defensively, but of the three protagonists involved in defending the goal (Van Hecke was the wrong side of his man and initially helped deflect the ball into the box), VDV was actually the least culpable of the three.
As the last line of defence in front of the goalie I feel that VDV should be attacking the ball to prevent the shot, not stand there with his hands behind his back. Regardless of who did what beforehand. And yes, Bentancur is generally dreadful these days.
The Number 9 was the big difference today. Calvert-Ruin isn't an amazing footballer, but if he played up top for us today we'd have won. Solanke was invisible.
The crowd did their part and John Brooks looked out of his depth and he ended up guessing most calls. Porro's tackle was fair, he won the ball and it wasn't dangerous or reckless. Bogle's at first glance was a yellow all day because of his right leg action. Once I saw the left foot of his, it is a clear red. VAR are simply incompetent, but for the ref to not give a yellow shows how bad of a game he had.
In the second half they were better than us and the game got away from us. Hindsight is an amazing thing, but once Tel came off, I'd have put LWB on. VDV got caught too many times trying to maraud his way through, but he was forcing the issue, as there was very little happening in front of him. More patience is required. What we lacked was a 'spark' and without Madders, we have fw who can provide one.
We are not as bad as everyone thought we were (relegation fodder), but we're not as good as some think we are! To get top 4, as some have mentioned, we need to get points at grounds like Elland Road.
Good summary CS. That last paragraph is very fair in my opinion. We have too many holes, especially up front, to be a top 5 team. Porro's yellow card was absurd and Bogle's if anything was a worse tackle than Mateta's last week, so where is the consistency from the refs and VAR? I too would have brought LWB on in place of Tel and without a creative influence (was Maddison not fit, if so then why was he on the bench?) we never looked like creating much of anything, especially second half.
If Maddison was fit he would have played last week and this. Against Coventry, he was superb so the injury he picked up has knocked the creative stuffing out of us........again.
Under Conte we were crying out for a Maddison type player. We went and got one after he left (of course we did-horse-bolt-door-close-once) but it turned out he was made of bubbles, butterfly wings and bone china.
I understand RDZ wants to keep him involved by getting a kit on him and although this helps the emotional well being of him, it does nothing for the fan watching or the team on the pitch.
This just shows how much work there is still to do. Players dictate a manager's outcome and ENIC stiffed every manager we have had. We'll be talking about the lack of goals from the front line till the cows come home! It is so frustrating because with a half decent number 9, we'd be pretty good.
There’s just nothing up front. We look top four all day long, better than Chelsea and Liverpool at the moment, until we get to the final third. Then it all goes Laurel and Hardy.
Such a shambles, and it is costing us points. It cost us points last season, and they didn’t address it, and we nearly got relegated. I think RDZ focussed on culture this summer, removing the likes of Richarlison, Vicario, Romero from the team. I understand that. But now he breads to hire in some quality.
We lack presence up front, muscle and tackling in midfield and are still flakey at the back. That’s your spine, and a team like Leeds will test the strength of your spine.
We lost the midfield battle today, people go on about nothing up front but if you don’t get some control in midfield how do you play balls in to the forwards? We had to rely on the wide players bombing in crosses to a forward like Marmoush who’s not going to thrive on that.
We aren’t quite ’spineless’ but we look it against teams like this. A decent central forward, Gallagher alongside Tonali and VDV out the team with Robertson with the armband, and we might just win a few games like this…
People dig out Kinsky, but I’d like to know what he does wrong. I thought he was fantastic today. Stood tall, strong in the air, fantastic shot stopper m.
About as much penetration as a eunuch on his honeymoon......even through my blinkered eyes we deserved nothing. Having said that a VH header equalkising would have made me laugh.
By the way, that referee was exactly the same referee who sent off Xavi Simons for a studs up on Van Dijk’s calf. Straight red. same ref, same tackle, and he didn’t even give a yellow this time. Unbelievable.
Not why we lost, but fuck me the incompetence / bias.
Leeds played well. Probly should’ve scored 3-4 goals if more clinical. I can see what RDZ is trying to do but need more creativity in mf and better press win the ball back in other half to create more chances.
Leeds always work hard and press high it isn’t a secret ..bringing Solanke on for Tel instead of LWB meant we had no attack as Kudus was doubled up on . Terrible tactics by the coach . Leeds then had us pinned back by and large ..
We don’t dominate the midfield against more physical sides. We don’t have the muscle to keep the ball enough. Brentford we were outfought and again today…
Dim SoWanky needs to go and play with Richi now, he's not fit to wear the shirt. It's cringy that he's still getting chances. It's not an issue of playing him into form he just doesn't have any form. Complete dogshit, he should just stick to his crayons and manga comics.
It’s not to do with the red card. We can’t hope to get people sent off each week to win. The fact is not having a proper centre forward is costing us each week. Solanke and Marmoush totally ineffective.
You're right, as losing Tel is hardly game changing, but a red it was. Leeds don't get 3 points if VAR does its job. It's not as though it was a 50/50 decision.
Not going to happen today…best team won ..a hard lesson ..win 3 games and turn into tarts ..shocking performance out fought out thought ..wrong starting line up wrong subs ..
Had no out and because of this our shape disappeared.
Easy there East Stand .😄 A loss always hurts I get that, I’m as annoyed by that inept performance as you. However RDZ is a much better coach in my opinion than Frank but today he got it wrong, the lineup and the subs. That happens to every manager now and again. Our problem really as we all know is the forward line particularly the strikers …or lack of them. It’s criminal this wasn’t addressed but here we are. Until it is there’s going to be a lot of these games. But overall I think he’ll do well for us. This always felt like a game too far …. 3 wins on the bounce , everyone feeling good and a favourable run of games coming up …..we were bound to lose this.
I understand the logic, but RDZ still has it to prove over any sustained period at any club, and he was appointed in a panic.
Of course he should be given time, but we are getting rolled over by pragmatic, low blocking mid table sides at the moment. He needs to remedy that, winning at Chelsea and the losing at Leeds is indicative of this.
’Bound to lose it’, on what basis? While on a winning run after winning at Stamford Fridge with a full week’s preparation and no European games? Leeds away was a tricky fixture, not one we were bound to lose. Sorry, totally disagree. There a pattern emerging, we still struggle to perform against this kind of opponent…
Because it’s what we’ve done for years 😂 we beat a good side then inevitably lose the next game to a team who are not doing well. European football , no European football , cup games mid week or a free week it’s always been the same no matter the manager. “Dr Tottenham “ hasn’t come off the back of one or two seasons this has been happening for donkeys. 😄 thats why to me this was always bound to happen. I do think if we had a striker who knew where the goal was we’d not be having this conversation 😄
No one can take this club much further without a decent striker ..your agenda is bogus ..Poch is a has been he had an excellent squad at Spurs and has achieved fuck all elsewhere.
Poch hasn’t been fortunate with the appointments he’s had since he left. He went to PSG and won as expected, did well at Chelsea under the circumstances too. He’s better than most, and he loves the club. What’s not to like over a coach who’s only had one decent season in this division?
Gallagher is always worth putting on, but I agree on all the others. Bentancur, what does he bring, other than mediocrity? Solanke, the mind boggles, Kulu hasn’t played for almost two fucking years. Not sure what RDZ’s thought processes were but none of it made any sense at all…
Couldn’t have said it better. Game was screaming for LWB to come on when Tel came off. Even without the red card, we would have had a player running at defenders and pushing a midfield back to help out. Moving the invisible/lightweight marmoush to the left to make way for the invisible Solanke was never going to create chances. RDZ game management was as poor as the referee. Having said that, we still need the striker we’ve been craving for years. Other premier league teams are still finding new ones…
Only a few words as I am in goal for Utd ….Fergie time Clattenberg ha ha ha.

I think when we play the double pivot we are fine. 3 upfront was a mistake. Particularly away from home

Impotence, but we knew this at the start of the season.
Deserved fuck all . So wanky is getting worse marmoush ain’t no shakes either .
Solanke 140 k a week for the next 4 years ..Levy the Merkin really wanted to sink the football club.

RDZ is NOT the man to take this club forward in the medium to longer term. He’s not good enough, no better than Frank, just has better players…

Solanke, Bentancur, Tel and VDV are all dead wood.
Kinsky our MOTM...Van Hecke maybe the best of the outfield lot.
Fernandes was a bit all over the place again, he abd Tonali are not the right two for a lot of games, as it showed today.
Subs have made us way worse in this game. Terrible Di Zerbi game management for me.
Bentacur, Kulusevski, Gallagher, Solanke. Garbage.
