Multiple sides have begun talks: Spurs star seeks "greater playing time"
Mathys Tel had a decent, but certainly not a breakout, loan spell in 2024-25 and contributed to Spurs’ Europa League success, but playing time has been limited in the Premier League. The Tottenham squad is hardly crammed with world-class talent, but the Frenchman has yet to generate a name for himself in N17.
As far as who is interested in the boy, one could almost ask who isn’t.
John Cross over at The Mirror says that Premier League outfit Bournemouth have launched initial talks, and journalist Sébastien Vidal posted on X:
Mathys Tel could already leave Tottenham this summer. The French striker is considering a departure in order to secure more playing time, and several clubs are closely monitoring his situation. Bournemouth has already initiated discussions while other suitors remain on standby.
I was told this morning that Tel has also been offered to Porto and that Tottenham have very much consented to a move. It could be that the lad is not a player at this time that De Zerbi has much faith in. After all, he does take the training. Head coach Francesco Farioli is actively hunting for a versatile attacker capable of deploying in various roles across the final third; a profile that perfectly mirrors Tel - on his day.
The valuation in question hovers around the £40 million mark, and any potential deal is expected to be structured as a loan with an option to buy.
Much like Porto, the Cherries are interested in a loan-with-option formula for the attacker. It’s also suggested in various places that continental clubs LOSC Lille and Eintracht Frankfurt have also recently registered their interest in the 21-year-old. Even Galatasaray and Aston Villa have been mentioned!
Fans will rightly feel frustrated; this was a significant chunk of the Harry Kane money, and now we are looking to reposition the deal. Tel’s valuation is reportedly in the £26m range in some circles, though the club would likely want closer to their purchase price.
Who will spare Spurs’ blushes?
