"Open to signing for Tottenham" personal terms edge closer as trusted Italian journalist makes positive claim
It feels like Mateus Fernandes is edging closer to Spurs
Further to today’s earlier piece Twist in Fernandes transfer: How Tottenham could have the edge over Man United, which identified a clear rationale for Mateus Fernandes to join Spurs, it now looks as if that situation is advancing.
Matteo Moretto tells us that Fernandes is open to a Tottenham move, although there has been no agreement thrashed out with West Ham as yet.
Moretto told followers on X just now:
Tottenham is very close to reaching an agreement with Mateus Fernandes on the contract.
There have still been no official negotiations with West Ham. Mateus Fernandes, also on the radar of other big clubs, is open to signing for Tottenham.
Matteo Moretto is an Italian football journalist and one of the most prominent and prolific sources on the European football transfer market.
He works as a transfer expert for Relevo.com (especially covering La Liga), contributes to Marca, and collaborates closely with Fabrizio Romano (including on the Italian-language YouTube channel “Fabrizio Romano in italiano”). He has also written for sites like Football Italia and Football España.
Moretto is widely regarded as a reliable insider for breaking news on player movements, contracts, and negotiations, particularly involving Italian clubs and Spanish ones. Fans and media often cite him as a trusted source.
It is worth noting here that Fabrizio Romano has reiterated on several occasions that this is very much a transfer in addition to any Sandro Tonali transfer, and not in place of one. Which only serves to hopefully show how serious Spurs are taking this window.

A player who has been relegated back to back. Great buy and showing ambition 👎🏻
Would be great to get this one sorted, but as a Mendes client I do wonder if this is his way of getting United to hurry up and is using us.
