Very positive news update on Tonali from several of the reputable Italian journos, Romano, Di Marzio and Pedulla ... (see link) ... https://www.football365.com/news/tottenham-hotspur-sandro-tonali-manchester-city-newcastle-united ... Fernandes seemingly in our hands also, if we're willing to go the extra mile and blow Utd out of the water financially.

Methinks this is a watershed moment for the club and ENIC's stewardship of it. A litmus test, whereby if we fail to secure either of these two prospective acquisitions, it will be empirical evidence that nothing has changed with ENIC and the derision from far and wide, will be utterly deserved

If we even get one of these two players through the door, with a new club record fee, then that alone would be evidence of progress and should be duly acknowledged, with the new ownership principals at least deserving of some credit, for heightened ambition.

However, if we were to secure both targets, with both smashing the club transfer record, then that is a real paradigm shift, a genuine game changer and a clear sign, backed by actions rather than words, that we finally intend to compete, like a 'big club', for trophies/titles. So we wait!

Ornstein states that no approach from Arsenal at present. The one to watch for is City. I would lean towards Ornstein on this as his sources are mainly club side whilst Romano's are agent side. Romano will know if Tonali wants to go to Spurs or Arsenal via the agent. However, whether Arsenal want the deal will come from club based sources and Ornstein's opinion on Arsenal in this is probably more accurate. To me this just yet another example of ENIC trying to prime the season ticket renewals with talk of quality players. They throw in an offer which they know will be rejected and then instead of going straight back in with a new offer they go back in with an offer to "reconsider" their original offer. Only ENIC could do that, If they were genuinely ambitious to get the deal over the line they would ensure they closed the deal before other clubs could react. Instead they have moved on with Fernandes who to me is not in the same tier of quality as Tonali but is their primary target. I am not overly excited about this transfer window to date. Three free transfers early doors does not inspire me into believing the worm has turned. Hecke's fee will be replaced by Bergvall or Romero leaving. Fernandes played for a team that got relegated and he is desperate to not have his wages cut and end up playing Championship football next season plus he is already London based. Tonali is a different kettle of fish and will want CL football and the chance to win titles. If Arsenal do not move for him then City will probably dive in and then loan out Savinho to Barcelona to prevent Arsenal nicking him. Savinho is a City Group player who is registered to Girona but owned by Manchester City. City have full control on what happens with the player. Only an offer over valuation is likely to tempt City to dispose but more likely they will not look to strengthen immediate rivals like Arsenal or any other EPL team so a loan deal to someone like Barca may make sense.

Let’s be honest. We can’t and don’t compete for good players. Slightest whiff there's a better offer and they’re gone. Willian is a prime example.

Any player with ambition. Ambition of winning stuff will steer well clear of THFC inc.

The owners and those given the job of running the club have made it like a cross to a vampire. All we tend to get are the cast offs they nobody else wants. For me the Tonali talk is about selling season tickets. Sales are obviously slow. Being linked with Woolwich is the perfect. Ah ! We tried. Heard it all before.

Every player would prefer Arsenal to Spurs, that isn't news. Do Arsenal want him though?

Although we have been floundered in the past with teams buying players just so we wouldn't get them, Arsenal are also rumoured to be buying Rogers and Guimaraes. I know a squad needs 2 top draw players in each position, but Arsenal will have to sell players to accommodate any new arrivals, especially in midfield. Merino, Rice, Odegaard, Zubimendi and Eze has all their bases covered. It's a No. 9 and left sided attacker they need to strengthen.

It's all speculation and makes for good reading I suppose.

Looking at the bigger picture, I like Bergvall, I do think he'll become a very good footballer, but he's done very little for us, mainly because he came so young and he wasn't ready to play 38 games in an EPL season. In a perfect world, we'd keep him, send him on loan and buy Tonali, but if we can sell him and get Tonali that is a positive.

It does appear that the club continues to dick around and wait for the inevitable gazzumping. Fucking charlatans will never truly change

To be fair, most players would probably prefer to go to the Arse.

But some players may settle for a lesser club where they can get regular game time. Not every player wants to warm the bench or play in front of 3 men and a dog in the reserves.

If they can get an extra £15k per week they will play 5 a side to an audience of wildebeest.
