Report: "Understand Spurs would want a fee of around £45m"
Tottenham has set an asking price of around £45m for 20-year-old Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall after he submitted a transfer request this summer, according to The Standard.
If accurate, this will mostly soothe the furrowed brows out there among fans who became overwhelmingly attached to young Lucas. But the reality is, we struggled to give him much game time, and who knows whether he was hampered by being played out of position; he failed to set the world alight.
It’s also worth noting that the boy is under contract until 2031, giving Spurs leverage, and they’ve ruled out loans. No formal bids have been lodged yet. Bergvall is expected to properly assess his options after the 2026 World Cup, where he’s been involved with Sweden.
Spurs signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården in early 2024 for around £8.5m. His market value on sites like Transfermarkt sits around €35 million, but Premier League interest and his potential push it higher in negotiations.
Interest has been linked to clubs like Chelsea (who scouted him but have reportedly decided against a move at the suggested price); also in the mix are sides such as Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, and others.
As I said recently, I could see him at Villa and doing very nicely for them.
Many Spurs fans are divided. Some see £45 million as good business for a player with high upside but limited recent game time, while others view him as a key prospect worth keeping.
