Revealing element in Tonali deal speaks volumes about Tottenham's new direction under Lewis Family
Tottenham are having a great window. Looking at social media, which is a great way of gauging popular opinion, many are calling it a “record summer,” “one of the best windows in Europe,” or rate it 9/10.
Spurs fans are excited about the ambition after back-to-back poor seasons and past windows of hesitation. Early business is getting done, and De Zerbi’s influence is also receiving praise.
Rivals and neutrals acknowledge it’s impressive for a non-European side to attract big names. Some scepticism remains about overpaying or long-term fit, but the consensus is that Spurs are finally “going for it” after years of restraint. It is natural for some moaning, after all, clubs like Chelsea have been groaned at for decades.
Tottenham still have work to do, especially up front, but the window is widely being viewed as seeing Spurs as trying to be successful and proactive so far.
What caught my eye in particular was the inclusion of ‘multiple Champions League qualifications.’
Is it just me, or did anyone else spot this as new? I am pretty sure the add-ons will invariably include all manner of achievements, but I don’t recall journalists singling out Champions League activity in the past.
To me, this is the Lewis family drawing a line in the sand.
After two 17th-placed finishes, it might seem like an overreach, but I like the idea that the Lewis family feels confident putting this into the public domain.
More, please!
