It’s embarrassingly obvious, just how toothless we are up front. To have spent upwards of £300m on incoming players this summer; and be no more effective up front, than we were last season, where we narrowly escaped relegation, specifically because we couldn’t score goals, is criminal negligence at it’s worst
What we have to analyse is are we improving. The short answer is yes. Our forays to the theatre of dreams have never been that good. So I for one thought we’d lose. Nicking a point so late on with 10 men Spurs in most recent times would have lost. That’s an improvement imo.
What has been glaringly obvious since one of own went through the door marked exit is we have no goal scoring threat. A toothless tiger in the attacking third. Getting there isn’t the problem. It’s what happens when we do. An example is the first five mins yesterday's Solanke was pretty much one on one with the keeper. A controlling touch and shoot he would’ve probably scored. But no. He has 3 touches then shoots. Keeper & defender have time to set. No goal
Great strikers play on instinct. They don’t think about it. When they do, they inevitably miss. Defoe was a prime example of this. Solanke isn’t a very good striker. Not at PL level. His stats bear that out. He doesn’t play with instinct. For that reason he’ll miss far more than he scores.
I’m half pleased we nicked the draw. There an awful long way to go. The goal drought needed to be sorted it wasn’t. Make do and mend and hope those around us fail more than we do.
Bentacur. Harsh imo. Shaw put his nose into a challenge made on a team mate. Naff all to do with him. He triggered the reaction with the double handed shove. That’s a red card. He also went down like he’d been shot in the head with a 12 bore. That’s cheating. Retrospective punishment should be given to him for his actions.
We are improving. I said we judge at Xmas. I’m just not sure RDZ will last that long.
Act of God - useless striker who cant score for toffee, is bundled to the ground by centre back, but just before he hits the ground the ball hits him on the head and rolls past keeper. Why wasn't Shaw sent off -he started the fight and continued the fight, while Bentancur held his ground. They both deserved Red. The rest of them flattered to deceive, but were flaky as usual at both ends of the pitch. Fernandes immediately showed his class but it was way too late, while Maddison tries to entice the free kick rather than actually do anything useless.
Whilst I agree that Savio looked lively and dangerous on the break,I still stick to my observation that he lacks composure and an end product, which ultimately undoes all his good work. And he’s consistently inconsistent.
It has to be hoped that RDZ ‘s team can coach that end product into him, because Pep didn’t manage it and we need something to justify that enormously over inflated price that we paid for him.
Overall we were generally good until we got to the final third, and this was a failing we all knew about, but was not addressed in the transfer window.I fail to see what RDZ thinks that Solanke and Richarlison bring to the table, when the last two seasons resulted in consecutive 17th.place finishes.Could Lankshear be any worse?Marmoush looks to be the obvious choice to fill that role, but an out and out striker is not really his position.
Van Hecke is a very good ball playing centre half, but he has struggled with his defensive duties which is quite important when it comes to being a defender! When we were down to 10 he forced his passes too much and lost possession too easily. He certainly didn't look comfortable.
Senesi was running through treacle when he was in a foot race with M'Beumo. Not a good look was it?
Savio was lively, but you cannot ignore we have spent a lot of money for someone who isn't adept at assisting or scoring. He's quick, but so was Theo Walcott. It doesn't mean I wanted him in the team.
Kudus is slowly getting back to the player he was. If you think back, a few weeks ago he couldn't go past a player. Now he can. He is very good when in full flow.
I have always liked Tonali. He works really hard and knits play together well. £90m is a lot to pay but he is doing what he was brought in to do.
Bentancur was stupid. I know what RDZ means about thanking him, but we shouldn't need a sending off to give us extra fight. Gabriel got let off last season, but at Old Trafford, Rod was always going to be sent off. I wasn't happy that Shaw only got a yellow, he is one of those players that has turned himself into a 'hard man' without being anyway near one. His reaction to the contact was hardly 'hard man' like.
Gallagher, Gray and Udogie were alright, while Bergvall and Solanke were poor. We need upgrades on about 5-6 players before we'll start to be competitive at the top end of the table. There are green shoots in our performances, but a couple of big injuries could prove disastrous.
The good news is that Tel didn't make an appearance.
We had the best striker in the world and pushed him away. This is the history of the Tottenham.

The improvement might be gradual but it has been consistent.
This gives me a modicum of hope!
Savio better than Kudus in this game…Correct!
Were our central defenders that poor? I do like the increase in progressive passing from the back this season.

A scuffed header takes Solanke from a 1 to a 6? Now I've seen it all.
Udogie and Gallagher were average at best for me, no more than 6's.
Agree with the rest and Tonali deserved a 7 and our best player in my opinion.
I despise the oaf as much as anyone, but a goal is a goal. I did shout 'GO SPASTIC!' as the ball went in, if that's concilitory enough?!!
Really...... I went spastic when it went in!
