Telegraph journalist Sam Dean’s book Arsenal: The Inside Story of Arsenal’s Rebirth Under Mikel Arteta reveals that Arsenal held “serious conversations” with Pochettino after sacking Unai Emery in November 2019.
Pochettino had been sacked by Levy only about 10 days earlier and reportedly “showed willingness to engage” with the Gunners.
The mood in the camp at Spurs was sour at the time, as ENIC had yet again failed to back the Argentinian; his side was flatlining, and rather understandably Poch was unhappy.
It didn’t take long for fans to canonise Poch, and that’s a situation that remains in place to this day.
Pochettino was a strong candidate on a wide shortlist that reportedly also included Roberto Martínez, Carlo Ancelotti, Patrick Vieira, Julian Nagelsmann, Massimiliano Allegri and Vítor Pereira.
My view is that he’d have taken anything and still would. It feels bitterly inevitable that we will see him back at Tottenham. Not backed, but returned, the ultimate corporate win-win.
ENIC appear to be terribly happy with themselves if Lange’s latest LinkedIn cobblers is anything to go by, and therefore I will start drafting an article entitled, “Crucial decisions before Poch amid MAGICAL return” and submit it to Gold My Beer for consideration. Here’s praying he doesn’t return it with ‘See me’ scrawled on the footer.
The media storm around most topflight coaches these days is frankly a disgrace, and one is left having to constantly sift through misinformation and dull takes. How long has so-and-so got to turn it around?!
Let’s go over to Ken in Barking, who works for KPG and has some fine views based upon his twenty years wearing machine-washable suits. Ken, you’re a season ticket holder and a regular caller to the show…
Most YouTubers appear to be auditioning for a job they will never get, in an industry already oversubscribed with nitwits.
Websites still functioning are beaming their largely unread content to an audience now largely comprised of people who can’t form their own opinions and are looking to pass off the last thing they read, written by someone on minimum wage, to their mates at the water cooler.
Forgive my foul mood, but I have a triple-digit IQ and some days, it weighs heavy.
He’s said lots. What he’s physically done on and off the pitch are poles apart…
I seem to recall, he, Pochetino said he wouldn’t go to Woolwich. I think he was aware of the interest. Now this may have been something I heard at the training ground but I’m sure he said it publicly.
