Here in sunny Plymouth earlier in the season, Argyle looked like relegation fodder. Now they are a point and a place off the play-offs. It's encouraging how things can turn around.

At Spurs, injured players are starting to return, we have no European or domestic cup games to worry about and the team under Igor is playing with more speed, directness and urgency.

Clearly Bergvall is not 100 per cent yet, Gallagher has asthma and Vicario and Solanke are carrying injuries, but the overall trajectory is upwards. Good performances v Liverpool and Atletico have given us confidence.

I am hopeful of a good result today which would start to pull us clear of trouble.

On a side note, Mikey Moore is going great guns at Rangers, and if we get him back next season we will have a nucleus of talented youngsters in midfield in him, Gray and Bergvall.

There is a considerable amount of short termism in football. Max Dowman being mentioned in the World Cup squad discussion backs that up and so does the game in midweek. That stated we have to cling on to any green shoot coming our way don't we?

The league and European form have been poles apart and if it wasn't for the donkey slip fest and a totally awful refereeing decision leading to Atletico's 4th goal, the outcome of the tie could have been very different.

This is a must win game. Forest are poor, but so are we, and I do think they have a better team than ours. We'll find out who wants it more pretty soon.

It's fair to state Gray has to play in midfield today, he certainly deserves it and if he does, who plays alongside him from Sarr, Gallagher and Palhinha? I'd go with the latter, but I don't think Tudor rates him. The squad is looking slightly healthier, but the quality is still missing. Only Kulu and Madders can change that. Udogie, Porro, and Solanke have given us greater options, but their contributions have been mediocre.

The crowd will be so important today. They need to stay behind the team, but that depends on how the players apply themselves. The players need to give sustained levels of effort and intensity before anything else, just like the midweek game. Give the fans that and there'll be few complaints.

Just a brief FYI, I've not been at the races recently due to a recurring health issue - feeling improved and coverage ought to be less shite soon...

Feel better mate. Is it the lungs? Not sure if you remember, but I had a 11 day stint in hospital back in Oct/Nov and this blog was one of the things that got in through with my sanity.

Hope all is okay.

Good news on the health side of things. Being a Spurs fan does this to us. Don’t let the bastards drag you down.

Glad to know that you're feeling better H and the same sentiments might also be applied to Tenpole and the team. Certainly he has gone up in my and I suspect all of our estimations this past week. A win tonight, with the further impetus and boost in confidence which that would bring, would greatly reduce any lingering fears of the dreaded 'drop'.

Yup. I'd have sacked him after the first Athletico game. But he seems to be turning it around.

The players look noticeably fitter, and are moving the ball faster. He's encouraging quicker thinking and it certainly looks like it is starting to pay off.

However, only a win will do today. If that doesn't happen the goodwill will drain away.
