"There's an admission and acceptance" cold news breaking from inside Tottenham
Tottenham’s summer transfer window is well underway. Under Roberto De Zerbi, following a difficult 2025/26 season where Spurs narrowly avoided relegation, the club has focused on defensive reinforcements early on.
Paul van Hecke has arrived from Brighton for around £52m. A key addition for depth and competition, as well as reuniting with De Zerbi.
Andy Robertson has arrived from Liverpool on a free transfer. He’ll provide experience and competition/cover for Destiny Udogie.
Marcos Senesi has arrived from Bournemouth, adding left-sided defensive options for Micky van de Ven.
Meanwhile, Romero has expressed interest in playing in La Liga and is reportedly eager for a fresh start outside England. He has grown frustrated with Tottenham’s recent struggles, which obviously include relegation concerns last season.
He is no longer seen as untouchable under manager Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs are actively pursuing replacements, and it is widely believed that they are open to selling their captain to facilitate squad changes.
Reliable sources like Fabrizio Romano and Nico Schira have highlighted serious chances of an exit this summer, with a “feeling” among involved parties that it’s time for him to move on. Top clubs have made calls.
Now, Sky Sport’s Andrew Bridge via Last Word On Spurs says that the club have made their decision.
"There's an admission and acceptance that maybe this is the right time to part, but how many clubs will want to pay the money Spurs will want for him?"
For me, he needs to move on, and a new era requires fresh faces.
The fee will look after itself, as he is still respected abroad. This is a great time to sell.

“ the club has focused on defensive reinforcements early on”
Proof if needed they, the owner's, are so far removed from what the problems really are that they are out buying probably the last thing we actually need.
Now. Some might say it’s because a few of the current defenders are leaving. Well, they ain’t left yet. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking. The priority signings have to be striker(s) carrying on with what we’ve got will see us finish in a similar position if we don’t sort this out now.
The owners of our club seem to be as deaf blind and stupid as that idiot Keir Starmer who had thankfully resigned his post today. I don’t do politics. But how can someone be so blind deaf and stupid as to what’s going and being said around them. Then I see our owners … Ah !
