Tottenham player makes cryptic Instagram post, can you decode it?
I’m not sure if there’s been, for me, a less likeable character at Spurs in my lifetime, and now I think about it, that’s quite a crowded field. Either way, broader opinion on the Italian remains mixed.
Vicario arrived from Empoli in 2023 as a strong shot-stopper with good distribution.
Many fans initially praised him as a solid upgrade or successor to Hugo Lloris. He earned plaudits for instinctive saves, leadership (shouting at defenders), and contributions to clean sheets, including strong Champions League showings. Some viewed him as one of the better keepers in the league statistically at times.
The flip-flop
However, by early 2026, Vicario ranked among the worst in the Premier League for save percentage at times (e.g., bottom of the table at one point).
Fans on forums like Reddit and X often called him unreliable, erratic, or a “liability,” comparing him unfavourably to past keepers. Many expressed frustration with his decision-making under pressure.
Fans speculated it related to his situation at Spurs, possibly hinting at wanting to be the clear number 1 goalkeeper amid competition (e.g., from Antonin Kinsky) or expressing a desire for more leadership/respect.
It sparked discussions about whether he might push for a move or stay and fight for his place.
All change at Tottenham
Spurs appear to be moving on. Antonin Kinsky has taken over as the preferred No. 1 on a new contract, Martin Dúbravka has signed as backup, and Vicario is linked with moves to Italian clubs like Juventus or Inter.
Fans largely seem accepting or supportive of this shift, viewing it as necessary for squad refresh amid the team’s rebuild.
Overall, Vicario started as a fan favourite for his energy and shot-stopping but became a scapegoat in tough times.
Like many players on struggling teams, his reputation suffered from team context; some defend him as not the biggest issue, while others see him as expendable.
My take on Vicario
Perception remains polarised: loved by some for past highs, heavily criticized by others for recent lows.
For me, this is typical Vicario. Nobody in Italy has bitten his hand off, and instead of dusting himself down and acting like a man, we get more whining and indignation.
His remonstrations with his own players and with officials will not be missed.

I think the only person who loved Vicario was Vicario.
He was a Levy Temu Raya option.
