Report: Tottenham offering a new deal worth in excess of £275,000 a week
Spurs are certainly on the case with the Sandro Tonali transfer, with personal terms agreed, but The Sun says that a second fee has been rejected.
“Spurs asked the Mags to reconsider their opening £75million bid but were given another stern ‘no’ as the North East club hold out for £100m.”
The Sun
What is positive, however, is that Sky Sports understands we are looking to offer the Italian top money, citing a weekly wage in excess of £275,000.
Newcastle value Tonali at around £100m and are holding firm. There are reports of a follow-up approach asking them to reconsider, with Tottenham expected to return with an improved offer.
Tonali is reportedly keen to join Spurs and ready to sign if the clubs can agree on a fee. He is said to be a priority target for new manager Roberto De Zerbi to strengthen the midfield, which last season struggled to show much character.
Tonali, a 26-year-old Italian international, joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023. He has a contract until 2029 and has performed well after returning from a betting-related suspension. Newcastle are reluctant to sell one of its key players unless the high valuation is met.
Fan opinion, of course, is divided, but most appreciate what Tonali offers. The daftest reaction I have seen online so far was this:
“Won’t be surprised if we win the Prem”
There’s also much debate over this £80-100 million fee plus high wages. Some worry it’s ambitious but typical Spurs negotiating (leaking interest without closing), or question if he’s worth it over other options. Curiously, these other options are more or less straw men, and few, if any, credible alternatives exist.
A few posts note it’s part of broader midfield rebuild talks and could fall through, with some cynicism about Spurs always coming up short on fees/wages.
The Lewis Family owns the majority stake in Tottenham Hotspur and has recently emphasised “actions, not words” in response to fan frustration after poor seasons, including back-to-back relegation battles.
If this gets over the line, one can moan and groan, but certainly not accuse them of failing to act.

This is propaganda to get the gullible to commit to buying a season ticket. Clubs with ambition don’t sell their best players. We know this first hand as we’ve always done just that.
I don’t see the Toon being like us. They also don’t need the money. Not having it mate. You part with your hard earned if you think this is going to happen. I’ve got some magic beans you can buy when you’re done.
Don't care about the fee, he's an oven ready upgrade. Because of the suspension, Tonali has one year less wear and tear and less miles on the clock. We could get 6/7 good years out of him.
